The Backup Wizard helps you to create a new backup project and guides you through the most common options in BackupXpress Pro.

You can choose between two options:
Quickstart Wizard:
This option is for beginners, who only want to create a compressed backup. Nothing fancy, just backup.
Advanced backup:
This option is for experienced users who want to use the full flexibility of the BackupXpress Pro. This includes e.g. synchronizing, incremental or differential backup, archive splitting, encryption, sending files through the internet or scheduling a backup.
Advanced backup
Choose the kind of backup first. There are two options available:
Compressed backpup:
This is the most common type of backup. Use it every time you want to get a single archive file with the smallest file size possible.
File copy:
Here you can copy or update your data to any place in your network.

Backup Mode

Full backup
Use "Full backup" if you want to copy all your files from the source directory without checking their dates. This mode is usually used as a base of the incremental and differential backup.
Incremental backup
The incremental backup mode filters files that had been changed or are new, and creates a backup of those files. This backup mode creates the smallest archive.
Differential backup
With the differential backup you save all files that had been changed since the last full backup. This will make the archive bigger on every backup you create.
Files to save / Backup groups
In this dialog you choose the files you want to save.

You can either name a certain file path on your hard drive, or you choose to backup a complete drive.
There is also the option to choose a predefined group. This would be for example all your windows files, or all your Outlook files. Check "My documents" if you want to backup everything that's in your "My documents" folder.
Include / Exclude files in your backup
You can now set a filter for the files you want to include or exclude in your backup. This option is a great tool, if you have a directory with a lot of files but for example don't want to backup the .doc files, but only the .xls files.
If you want to exclude/include more than one file ending, just separate them with a semicolon. Use the wildcard *.* to include/exclude all files in the directory.

Include more files
If you want, you can now add more files to your backup project. Just click on add and choose the file from your hard drive.

Target path
Now you have to decide where to save your data. There are different options of which all require certain settings.

Date stamp
In order to organize your backups, you can add a running number or a date stamp to your backup file. This will help you to keep a good overview of your backups.

Double check the backup
If you want to be sure the backup was created correctly, you can check the files by their file size. This will compare the file size of the source and destination file.
You can also choose the complete file check, which is much slower but verifies that the content of the source and destination file is equal.

Additional groups
Add as many groups to the project as you like. If you put all groups into one projects, you need to start the backup only once in order to backup the whole project. (All your groups at once.)
If you choose to add more files, the wizard will start from the beginning again.

Schedule your backups
With the scheduler you can start your backups on specific dates, times or intervals. The shutdown event allows you to start backups on the system shutdown.

Name your project
BackupXpress creates a project file for your backup. You can name it here. Make sure, the name makes sense to you and you can see what groups are included in the backup.
If you want, you can also enter a short description of your project, so other people who use the software know immediately what the project is about.
Click on Finish and you are ready to run your backup.
